Stéphane’s Posting for Sept. 30, 2011

Under the Storm!

Today, last day of September, we are treated by a wonderful storm over Georgian Bay: gale-force winds and driving rain all day. Obviously, no banding was done this morning. The only birds flying were the gulls!

However, yesterday was a good day for banding: with 61 birds, it is so far the best day of the season. The Belted Kingfisher in our nets was a big surprise! But the bulk of the captures were Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Thrushes (Swainson’s, Gray-cheecked, and one Hermit).

Just before dawn, a Whip-poor-will was calling!
