About Grebe Lodgefireplace
Grebe Lodge is located in Cabot Head Provincial Nature Reserve, on the northeast tip of the Bruce Peninsula. Situated on a small spit of land, the lodge is bordered on one side by Georgian Bay and on the other by Wingfield Basin, a magnificent natural harbour. Towering bluffs of the Niagara Escarpment loom in the distance, providing spectacular scenery! Grebe Lodge was built in the 1950s as a fishing lodge. The lodge is now available for groups to use for education, research field trips, etc.

Grebe Lodge is named for the Red-necked Grebe, a species of water bird which migrates through Cabot Head and Dyers Bay, giving this area international status as an Important Bird Area.

In 1999 the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory (BPBO) began spring and fall migration monitoring at Cabot Head. With the support of Ontario Parks and the Ontario Ministry of  Natural Resources, BPBO restored Grebe Lodge and now makes it available to groups for research or educational purposes. Income from Grebe Lodge helps support the programs of BPBO, and helps to maintain the facilities.

An attractive stone building that accommodates up to 16 people, the Lodge sports an open-concept common room, with an enormous central fireplace and large windows offering expansive views overlooking beautiful Georgian Bay. The lodge has a well equipped kitchen and a dining area. There are two large bedroom units, each of which are each equipped with 3 comfortable bunk beds and en-suite bathrooms.

Who may use the Lodge
The lodge is available to adult educational groups (universities or colleges) and nature, photography or art groups. Group activities must have an educational or research focus (to meet the regulations of the Provincial Nature Reserve). Research projects must meet with the approval of Ontario Parks.

About Cabot Head

Home to ferns, orchids, snakes, bears and hundreds of bird species, Cabot Head is a paradise for naturalists, artists and photographers.
